Commercial Water Purification Systems

The importance of filtration of water destined for human consumption is now a fundamental public health matter. The growing and worrying situation relating to pollution of water by pharmaceuticals, perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), microplastics, viruses, bacteria, endotoxins, and molds and algae which can grow inside pipework spontaneously or due to infiltration or faults in the public water main or private pipework within residences themselves highlights the importance of filtration of drinking water as a fundamental matter for the protection of consumer health.

The EU, starting out from behavioral analysis carried out in 2015 on its population regarding the use of tap water, highlighted that:

  • 84% of the population use tap water to cook
  • 55% drink water taken straight from the tap

On the basis of these data, and more generally with the goal of providing a global contribution to reducing the use of plastic bottles as laid out by the UN in its sustainable development goals, the new directive 2020/2184 (EU) on the quality of water intended for human consumption lays out stringent new requirements which favour(favor) the use of filtration devices.
